Introduction to Online Therapy by Michelle Copley, Integrative Therapist and Clinical Lead at The Therapy Hub. In this video Michelle talks about how online therapy/remote counselling works, what are the benefits of accessing therapy this way and what advantages people she has worked with find it brings over face to face / in person therapy.
Please contact us at thetherapyhubuk@gmail.com if you don't see an answer to your question.
If you want to guarantee that you are speaking to a qualified and knowledgeable therapist, always make sure that they are registered with a government approved Registration Organisation like the BACP - my membership number is displayed as part of the BACP community logo on the homepage of this website and you will find my details on their register of counsellors and psychotherapists at www.bacp.co.uk. This confirms qualifications, experience and adherence to ethical standards.
Sadly, in the UK anyone can call themselves an online therapist without any qualifications, so it is important to be vigilant and careful when choosing someone to help you that they are part of such an organisation.
There is no difference; they refer to the same thing, which is therapy or counselling delivered over the internet instead of in person in an office. You may also see different combinations e.g. online counselling/remote therapy; they all mean the same thing.
I usually use Zoom, so for each session we arrange I will send you a Zoom Invitation with a link that you just click on when the day and time arrive. If you don't already have Zoom it is easy to download.
No. Modern computers, tablets and phones make it very easy for people to use online meetings. It is usually just a case of joining the meeting and beginning the session. We will always have each other's contact details so that if there are any technical difficulties we can talk to each other and resolve them.
Most people say that they prefer to do online therapy because they are not having to add travel time and costs onto the cost of the therapy itself. They also appreciate being in their own home, rather than having to go to an office building they don't know with people they don't know. For people who are anxious or agoraphobic, for example, this can mean the difference between starting therapy and not feeling able to try. For further details about the benefits of online therapy and how it works, please watch my video 'Introduction To Online Therapy' on our Youtube and Podcast page.
Because this therapy is online, we accept people from across the UK.
